Why Most Dispensary Google Ads Accounts Get Suspended

Most dispensary Google Ads suspensions aren’t random, they follow patterns. Here’s what’s actually getting accounts shut down and how to prevent it.

Most dispensary Google Ads suspensions aren’t random. They follow patterns. And once you know the patterns, most of them are preventable.

Here’s what’s actually getting accounts shut down.

Policy Trigger #1: Product Language in Ad Copy

This is the most common trigger, and the most avoidable. Advertisers write ad copy that would be completely normal for any other retail business and forget that Google’s cannabis policy treats product mentions differently.

Even seemingly innocuous phrases can trigger review: “browse our selection,” “premium products,” “quality cannabis.” The word “cannabis” in ad copy, even as a descriptor of your store type, can flag your ad in some markets.

The fix: write ad copy that describes your business, not your inventory. “Award-winning dispensary in [City]” passes. “Premium cannabis products in [City]” does not.

Policy Trigger #2: Landing Page Violations

Your ad can be perfectly compliant and still get your account suspended because of what’s on your landing page. Google evaluates the full user journey, not just the ad itself.

The most common landing page triggers:

Live menu embeds. Dutchie, Jane, and similar platforms embed your full product menu — with product names, categories, THC content, and pricing. Google’s crawlers index this. If your landing page destination pulls in this data, you’re serving a product catalog through your ad.

Product imagery. Photos of cannabis flower, packaged products, or anything that clearly depicts cannabis products will flag your page.

Delivery or e-commerce UX. If your landing page has “Add to Cart,” “Order for Pickup,” or similar functionality visible on the page, you’re signaling purchase intent.

No age disclaimer. Missing a 21+ notice is a minor issue on its own, but combined with anything else, it accelerates review.

Policy Trigger #3: Billing and Profile Issues

Suspensions aren’t always about cannabis policy specifically. Standard Google Ads account issues hit dispensaries harder because they often have less account history to buffer against automated flags.

Billing failures — even a one-time declined card — can trigger account review. If your account gets flagged for billing while already under policy scrutiny, the combination can accelerate suspension.

Using a personal Google account with no business verification, or a shared agency account with mixed-industry clients, also raises your risk profile.

Policy Trigger #4: Disapproval Accumulation

One disapproved ad is not a problem. Seven disapproved ads in 30 days is a pattern that can trigger manual review of your entire account.

This happens most often when advertisers use broad match keywords that serve their ads for searches Google classifies as policy-violating, leading to repeated automatic disapprovals they’re not even aware of.

Check your disapproval log weekly. Pause or remove anything accumulating disapprovals rather than letting it run and rack up violations.

What to Do If You Get Suspended

First: don’t panic and don’t create a new account. Navigating the complexities of running dispensary Google Ads is tough. Creating a new Google Ads account to circumvent a suspension is a Terms of Service violation that can result in a permanent ban tied to your business information, payment method, and IP address.

Instead:

1. Read the suspension notice carefully — it will specify which policy was violated

2. Audit your landing page and ad copy against the policy cited

3. Make the required changes

4. Submit an appeal through Google’s official appeal form

5. Follow up every 5–7 business days if you don’t hear back

Appeals succeed most often when the advertiser can clearly demonstrate what changed. Vague appeals (“we comply with all policies”) are almost always rejected.
